How it's calculated
The pick you'd give up gets its own value, computed the same way as every player: as if it were a real draft slot, run through the value curve.
pick value = value(overall pick = (round − 1) × teams + slot)
Surplus is the player's value minus the pick's value; surplus % is that surplus divided by the pick's value.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is a draft pick's value calculated?
A pick's value is treated as if it were a player selected at that exact overall slot -- round 8, pick 6 of 12 in a 12-team league is overall pick 90, so it gets the same value the trade calculator would give the player real drafters are, on average, taking 90th overall right now. That keeps the pick and the keeper on the exact same scale.
What if I don't know the exact pick, just the round?
This calculator defaults to the middle slot of the round you enter (pick 6 of 12 in a 12-team league, for example), which is a reasonable stand-in when your league's keeper rules just say "costs your Nth round pick" without specifying an exact slot.
What counts as "worth keeping"?
If the player's value is at least 50% higher than the pick's value, that's a clear keep. Down to -10% is "borderline" -- a real, defensible call either way. Below that, the pick is worth more than the player on paper, so drafting fresh at that slot is the better value play.
Does this work for dynasty keeper/startup leagues?
